All About Singin' and Jammin'

First and foremost, it's fun!  Karaoke is singing your favourite popular songs to background tracks as the lyrics scroll across a screen.  Karaoke is one of the most popular pastimes in the Philippines and at Raffy's Cafe!.  If you want to know more about the history of karaoke, check out this article. 

Yes, we dare you! Absolutely anyone - the timid, the brave, newbies, amateurs, professionals - can belt out a tune at Raffy's cafe.   If you sing in the shower, you can sing in the cafe.  We don't care if your performance is perfect or not.  Just sing like no one is watching and have a great time.  If you're shy, grab a friend or two and have them sing with you.  Once you get into the groove, the whole cafe crowd just might join in on the chorus.

Raffy may ask you if you'd like to sing, or if there is no one in front of the mic, go ahead and step on the stage.  The tv screen and computer/iPad are connected to YouTube where you can find all kinds of backing tracks.  Search YouTube using the term "karaoke" and the name of the song or artist.  Click on Start and you're off to the races.

We want as many people as possible to have a great karaoke experience, so we ask that you limit yourself to 3 songs to start, so that other patrons can take a turn.  If there are fewer patrons who want to sing, you can sing more than 3.   Just be mindful of our other guests.

Oh yes, in the immortal words of Bob Marley, "we be jammin'" here at the cafe.  Jamming happens where 2 or more musicians get together and improvise, or play an impromptu tune together that is familiar to them all.  They might know each other already, or not.  That's what makes jam sessions so cool. 

Just let Raffy know you'd like to play, whether you are a new or seasoned musician  Bring your own instrument or use one supplied by the cafe.  We have electric and acoustic guitars, basses, drums and keyboards.  Play with other patrons or bring a music-minded buddy or two to play with you.  Many local musicians love to jam at Raffy's and have become "regulars".
